About Us

KAVIRI COMMUNICATIONS (KC Studios) is the official Social Communication Centre of the Diocese of Tiruchirapalli. It is committed to spreading the gospel values through cultural arts, with a new impetus for the effective and creative use of present-day tools of electronic media. Named after the river Cauvery that flows miles and miles through Tiruchirapalli communicating life, fertility, and prosperity through its waters, Kaviri Communications (KC Studios) brings to people messages of love, equality, justice, peace and the brotherhood and sisterhood of all. Kaviri Communications (KC Studios) is the new name for the Social Communication Centre as of October 01, 2007 changed from the old Kalai Kaviri Arts and Communication Centre which served the diocese and society at large for 30 years, leaving this old name with the diocesan College of Fine Arts, which is but an offshoot of Kalai Kaviri itself.

Kaviri Communications (KC Studios) is a life-giving and refreshing river of living water, bringing through effective communication especially in the field of cultural arts the Good News to the people in the diocese and to all.

To undertake and transform the communication apostolate, that it may continuously flow with evangelizing power and relevance into the people’s lives, by applying present-day tools of electronic media to the various fields and forms of the cultural arts and by engaging in significant productions, presentations, programmes; the creation and marketing of appealing and affordable products; innovative training programmes especially for the youth; various cultural activities to be brought to the people; all these to be vessels of faith, of the people’s folk and cultural heritage, and of human dignity.

  • To continue to bring to the people uplifting and transforming gospel messages and other urgent social messages through the medium of the stage with professional productions by the Centre’s own dance and drama troupes.
  • To produce musical compositions on gospel truths, liturgical themes, and social issues which can easily reach the people, providing them with spiritual alternatives in the highly competitive secular and inter-faith markets through the affordable, popular electronic forms of audio compact discs (cd’s) and digital video discs (dvd’s).
  • To strengthen the institution of Kaviri Communications (KC Studios) as a highly visible and vital venue of ecclesial, biblical, socio-political communication/ formation and information connecting to the people’s lives through stage and television programmes, public dialogues, debates and all other effective and attractive audiovisual and cultural media that can fulfill its evangelizing role.
  • To give special attention to the youth, involving them in the apostolate of cultural and social communication by enabling them to participate and perform in the productions, and by holding classes in dance and music, especially in the folk tradition.
  • To assist all interested parties and make available to them the newly updated audio and video facilities of the Centre for their own religious and socio-religious productions.
  • To be forward-looking in these times of information explosion and extreme secularization. The challenge to the Centre is to flow in the tides of the times and still preserve and propagate the cultural heritage of the people and ground them in the gospel values of truth, justice, love, and freedom. Towards these, the Centre is committed to using all possible cultural and communication tools aside from those already mentioned above, like cultural festivals, on the road traveling programmes, press releases, publications, and internet accessibility to name a few. The road ahead is wide open. Kaviri Communications (KC Studios) rises to the call to be forward-looking, already responding to critical issues and present needs of the individual, of women, of society, the environment, of the Church and liturgy etc. in its current audio-visual cd and dvd releases, stage and television productions, and other activities.
Kaviri communications (KC Studio)s was originally started on 01 October 1977 under the name “Kalai Kaviri Arts and Communications Centre” by the Most Rev. Thomas Fernando, the bishop of Tiruchirapalli. The focus at that time with its first director Rev. Msgr. S. M. George was Music and Dance as these arts were considered as effective means for spreading the good news. The Centre gained recognition in the diocese and beyond with its production of Yesu Kaviam, an Epic on the Life of Christ, by the renowned poet Kannadasan. A professional Dance & Drama Troupe was formed which toured Tamilnadu, a few other States in India, and some Western countries. Part-time schools of classical music and dance were started for the youth. These schools developed into the present Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts. Kalai Kaviri Arts and Communications Centre moved away from its College in 2001 to its new and present location. The Centre was re-named Kaviri Communications (KC Studios) on its thirtieth anniversary on 01 October 2007 by the Most Rev. Anthony Devotta, Bishop of Tiruchirapalli to establish its distinctive role apart from the College. Kaviri Communications (KC Studios) re-affirms its commitment and assumes its role with a broad vision and mission that has already started to take on the new challenges and vast opportunities of this revolutionary era of information and communication technology.
